Key Collector Issue
The Cat #1 (published in November 1972) introduced Greer Grant, who would later become Tigra, a well-known Marvel superhero. The issue, titled "Beware the Claws of the Cat", was written by Linda Fite and illustrated by Marie Severin.
The story follows Greer Grant, a young woman who undergoes an experimental procedure designed to enhance her physical and mental abilities. The experiment is overseen by Dr. Joanne Tumolo, but things take a dark turn when the villain Malcolm Donalbain interferes. Greer ultimately dons the Cat Suit, gaining superhuman agility and strength, and begins her journey as The Cat.
This comic was part of Marvel's early attempt to introduce female-led superhero series, alongside titles like Night Nurse and Shanna the She-Devil. Although The Cat only lasted four issues, Greer Grant later evolved into Tigra, a more prominent character in the Marvel Universe.
